Another year...
After an exceptionally busy autumn January has been a bit quieter, leaving us time to catch breath and look at the year ahead. During the month we have had a unusually wide variety of jobs, from supplying and fitting ESD flooring in an electronics factory in Newbury, fitting flooring in a church, several HCC care homes, a fire station, a medical practice in Surrey, a pavilion for Rushmoor Borough Council in addition to our work in schools and various B&Q stores in the UK.

Happy Christmas

Death of Keith Simmons
We are sad to announce that Keith Simmons, the 90 year old founder of Key Floors in 1982, died on 1st October. He had been in failing health for the past year. Peter Kavanagh's father-in-law had enjoyed a colourful life which included time as a member of the 3rd Parachute Regiment during the Second World War. We extend our condolences to Lynne, Peter and the family.

B&Q Focus stores - September rush
B&Q Focus stores have continued to keep our fitting teams busy throughout September. We have fitted new flooring in the showrooms and shopfloors in 13 stores throughout the UK during September. These are in addition to the seven stores we attended in the second half of August. Work is still going on with refurbishing various areas as well as the local work.

Busiest August ever
The summer holidays have been and gone in a flurry of work with fitters inundated with school refurbishments. In addition to this we have been working on a three phase refurbishment of flooring in the Focus stores that B&Q have recently acquired. With tight deadlines, repeated visits and varied locations this has been a challenge but all is going well and we are now about to start the third phase with the Pembroke Docks store along with another 12 around the UK.

Rushmoor Borough Council
Ongoing work at Rushmoor Borough Council with the refurbishment of the first and second floors at the Council offices in Farnborough that was started last autumn is reaching the final stages. During this time we have laid around 2,000 m² of Interface Flor carpet tiles in addition to laying vinyl on the stairs, toilets and in the kitchens.

Hampshire County Council care homes
We have just completed three projects replacing flooring in HCC care homes. These were at Solent Mead Care Home in Lymington, Green Meadows in Denmead, Waterlooville and Addenbrooke Care Home in Gosport, where we replaced the existing floor coverings with Danfloor Equinox Plus heavy contract impervious backed broadloom carpet, a flooring product which is particularly suitable for the elderly.

B&Q merchandising areas
We finished the current group of B&Q store revamps in March, laying Eletile vinyl woodplank flooring in the merchandising areas of B&Q stores in Dublin and the UK.

No news is good news!
Not having entered any news for some months does not mean we have been idle! On the contrary we have been beavering away on some exciting projects since the autumn. From October to March we have been working on revamps for B&Q stores in Chiswick, Dundee, Blackburn, Glasshoughton, Hull, Swansea, Crewe, Romford (Roneo Corner), Ipswich, Middlesbrough, Hartcliffe, Grimsby, Coatbridge, Kidderminster and Washington, as well as stores in Belfast and Dublin.

Recofloor Awards 2010
We have just heard that we have been given a Bronze Award by Recofloor for recycling offcuts of flooring during 2010. This scheme, which was founded by Polyflor and Altro and now administered by Axion Consulting, enables offcuts of smooth and safety vinyl to be recycled. Taking part in this initiative is just one part of our environmental policy of meeting the needs of the present without compromising those of future generations.

B&Q warehouses and stores
With B&Q starting their busy autumn programme, refurbishing stores and warehouses, we have started in their warehouses in Nursling, Kidderminster, Washington, Coatbridge, Hull and Roneo Corner. In addition there is new flooring required in the showroom areas of stores throughout the country, as well as the regular B&Q flooring maintenance work through SGP Property Services.

September has been a busy month, with schools and colleges needing flooring, carrying on from the summer holidays. We are working on a big flooring project for the offices at Rushmoor Borough Council and, as ever, Hampshire County Council is keeping us busy.

Busy summer in schools
Another busy summer refurbishing flooring in schools in the South, including the safe uplift and disposal of thermoplastic low risk tiles, which are still present in some of our region's schools. Half way through the holidays there are too many schools to mention but the work varies from jobs such as removing ceramic tiling in the Main Kitchen at Ringwood School and replacing them with Altro Walkway safety flooring, to sanding and sealing the hall floor at Hurstbourne Tarrant CofE Primary School, refurbishing corridors, stairs and classrooms in secondary, primary and infant schools with a variety of flooring products. In each location we will have used the best product for the project, at a competitive price.

More B&Q showroom flooring
We have just completed flooring in the showrooms of another six B&Q stores. We are currently using Eletile vinyl woodplank in the majority of showrooms.

Constructionline
We can now confirm that Key Floors has joined Constructionline, the UK register of pre-qualified construction services. We hope that this will save time and money in the pre-qualification process for tenders and other work.

Current jobs - B&Q
We have now completed in the showrooms at B&Q Erdington, Chiswick, Castlepoint, Sutton-in-Ashfield and Swindon and are about to start laying vinyl woodplank at Exeter. Preparations are in hand for another 18 stores at the beginning of June.

Easter holidays
Over the Easter holidays we are busy in schools around Hampshire and Berkshire as well as working in Crossways Children's Home in Basingstoke, Elizabeth Court at HCC headquarters in Winchester and finishing flooring in the showrooms at B&Q Erdington, Swindon and Sutton-in-Ashfield.

Current jobs - B&Q and De La Rue
B&Q revamps are still being carried out throughout the UK. Currently we are finishing Swindon, Sutton-in-Ashfield and Erdington. We are busy at De La Rue Internation at Overton Mill and among other jobs have been laying hygienic flooring in a GP surgery in Guildford.

CRB checks
We are finalising Criminal Record Bureau checks for all our estimating team, fitters and labourers, including our sub-contractors. We are hoping everyone will have a card by the end of April. With so much work in schools and children's/care homes we feel it is important that everyone has been through the CRB process.

B&Q revamp showroom flooring
We are currently working on the showroom areas at B&Q Swindon, Erdington and Sutton-in-Ashfield. These areas, which are having vinyl woodplank flooring laid, are where Kitchen, Bathroom, Bedroom Furniture and Cookshop goods are displayed.

Busy half term in schools
A busy half term involved jobs from The Polygon School in Southampton, Reigate School and Starhurst School in Dorking, as well as schools in Basingstoke, Farnborough, Gosport, Farnham, Andover and our surrounding area.

Appleshaw St Peter Primary School
Refurbishing the main school hall at Ragged Appleshaw was one of our half term projects. HCC requested we uplifted the existing flooring, sanded the subfloor before putting down a DPM and laying Polyflor Forest FX wood effect vinyl sheet.

Another Award
Another award - we have achieved Altius Assured Vendor status in Risk Management and Commercial Viability. This is important to us as this is one of the pre-requisites for carrying out B&Q maintenance work with the facilities management organisation SGP.

Royal Holloway University
A busy autumn schedule included laying vinyl woodplank flooring in the showroom areas at over 100 B&Q stores in the UK and Eire. As well as our regular school and care home work we refurbished flooring at Royal Holloway University, Rolls Royce in Chichester, the Staff Canteen at Gregg Bakery and the Dance Floor at Frogmore Leisure Centre.

Work with B&Q
Continuing our work with B&Q we are proud to have been asked to do all the flooring in the Autumn Showroom programme. This project, which started at the end of August and ends in December, involves laying showroom flooring around the UK and Eire in eight B&Q stores a week.

Another busy summer holidays with a full programme of work completing refurbishments mainly in Hampshire schools and colleges but also in Kent, Surrey, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire. We tackle small as well as large projects and this year we have successfully completed work that included hall flooring, sports halls, corridors, labs, WCs and numerous classrooms, in some cases involving thermoplastic asbestos tile removal. As ever customer satisfaction has been high.

National Construction College South - we are proud to announce that Tom Parke, one of our apprentices doing his NVQ2 in Floor Covering, has just been awarded the prize for the best 2nd Year Apprentice on his course at Erith College. Not only did he achieve this but he was also awarded the cup for the best 2nd year flooring apprentice in the whole of the South of the UK for outstanding work. Many congratulation, Tom!

As part of the B&Q revamp programme, we have just laid new flooring on the shopfloors at B&Q stores in Slough, Belvedere, Preston, Sunderland, Guildford and Northwich. Work will be starting in June on a further six stores.

April was a busy month with work in schools keeping all our teams busy. Great Binfields Primary School in Basingstoke was recarpeted throughout with Burmatex 4400 Academy carpet and CFS Barricade entrance matting and we refurbished part of the West End Arts Centre in Aldershot.

We have just finished an impressive installation in the Visitors Centre at The Great Hall and Round Table in Winchester. A particular feature is the Gallery, which with the Shop was fitted with Desso Wilton Profile sheet broadloom carpet. The Entrance Hall was fitted with coir matting. The work was for Hampshire County Council in association with Tew Bros.

After a busy half term week with all our fitters and subcontractors in schools in Hampshire and Surrey, we continue to work at B&Q stores from Edinburgh Newcraighall, Meir Park Stoke-on-Trent, Llandudno to Colchester laying Eletile EleEase vinyl wood plank flooring in the showroom areas. March looks busy with county council work and various commercial projects.

Work continues with refurbishing B&Q stores. B&Q Bradford was finished on time with the work being carried out at night in a busy pre-Christmas run up for the store.

We have started work on the new science area for the Faraday Project at Weydon School, Farnham, for FWA West Ltd. Currently we are scrabbling the sub-floor prior to latexing with smoothing compound. We shall then be laying various floor coverings, including the Faraday logo in Forbo Marmoleum Real.

Revamp work at B&Q continues with teams working at B&Q Bradford, Redditch, Wrexham, Portsmouth and Hedge End. We have also just completed flooring in the merchandising area of the new build store at New Malden.

With the start of the school holidays we are busy with refurbishments in schools, trying to fit in the work around Christmas and the start of next term.

Half term was as busy as ever with refurbishment flooring work carried out by our teams on halls, classrooms, stairs, changing rooms, entrance foyers and toilets in schools and colleges from Andover to the west, to Gosport to the south and Reigate to the east.

Since the summer holidays our work with B&Q has continued with a new build B&Q store in New Malden, where we have laid 2,000 sq m of Eletile EleEase Signature wood plank flooring in the showroom area. We are currently laying this flooring in the refurbished showroom areas of B&Q Hedge End, Redditch and Portsmouth. In October we supplied and laid Forbo Nairn Marmoleum in the back of house for The Body Shop at the recently opened shopping centres at Cabot Circle, Bristol, and Westfield in Shepherds Bush, London. Work continues in schools and residential care homes throughout the south and we are in demand from various builders and contractors for commercial and industrial flooring.
